ACL 2006: Days 1 and 2

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Gnarles Barkley tried hard but couldn’t get the crowd into it. The whole hour was just a buildup to “Crazy”. On the other hand, Thievery Corporation knows how to put on a show. I skipped the final acts, John Mayer / Van Morrison to beat the crowds. I did notice that there were about five females for every male in the crowd watching John Mayer.

On day 2, Ben Kweller fell victim to severe nosebleeding in the “allergy capital of the world”. He tried to keep going as the blood splattered over his guitar but the act was over in fifteen minutes. The Shins made up for Nada Surf’s lacklustre performance. People relied on imaginary friends and various other tricks to inch closer to the stage as they belted out hits from the Garden State soundtrack. The Raconteurs put on a good show but I was too far away from their stage to fully appreciate it. I predict that the Brazilian Girls will be recording for horror movie soundtracks very soon. The day ended with a great performance by Willie Nelson.
