September 18th, 2006I felt really really old watching Matisyahu. The average age of the standing crowd must have been 16. Thunderclouds approached Zilker Park while I watched the New Pornographers, Ben Harper and G. Love. It didn’t start raining (make that pouring) until twenty minutes into Tom Petty’s headliner show. They stopped playing for about twenty minutes. Several bodysurfers kept the crowd entertained in the meantime, until security escorted one of them out. The Petty (- DK) finished his set after it stopped raining, complete with a three-song encore
Although the lineup wasn’t as strong as last year, the organizers offered some great ways to beat the heat. Large fans with misters, thick grass and an airconditioned tent made the difference. Plus the high temperature seemed to be ten degrees lower than last year.
